SALEM, Ore., Nov. 5, 2019 – SeQuential, the longest running commercial biodiesel producer on the West Coast, announced today that it has completed an expansion to its Salem facility that increases production capabilities by 30 percent. The upgrade enables the production of 12 million gallons of low carbon biodiesel annually.
Expansion
“We’re thrilled to continue growing our production capabilities here in Oregon,” said Tyson Keever, Chief Operating Officer, SeQuential. “Local demand for low carbon fuel has risen steadily over the past several years, thanks in part to the state’s commitment to carbon reduction. We expect that trend to continue, and we wanted to be sure we’re prepared to meet it.”
In addition to its plant improvements, SeQuential recently expanded its cooking oil collection and recycling service territory to include the Los Angeles and Orange County areas of Southern California. The company now collects cooking oil from nearly 20,000 customers across Oregon, Washington and California. Cooking oil collected in the Pacific Northwest is used to make biodiesel at the SeQuential facility in Salem, and cooking oil collected in California feeds the Crimson Renewable Energy biodiesel plant in Bakersfield, California. Crimson Renewable Energy acquired SeQuential in late 2018. Together they form the largest, vertically integrated, ultra-low carbon biodiesel producer on the West Coast.
“SeQuential is committed to producing the lowest carbon fuel we can,” said Harry Simpson, CEO Crimson Renewable Energy. “A key part of that strategy is making sure we have good access to high quality, low carbon raw material. Expanding our service territory into Southern California is a natural progression of SeQuential’s used collection service and fits very well logistically with our Bakersfield biodiesel production facility.”
Biodiesel works with nearly any diesel engine, and offers many benefits over petroleum-based fuels, including better engine wear, reduction in harmful particulate matter and hydrocarbon emissions, and a significantly smaller carbon footprint. SeQuential’s biodiesel earned a carbon intensity rating of 14.85 under Oregon’s Clean Fuels Program, making it the lowest carbon liquid fuel available in the state.
About SeQuential
SeQuential is a subsidiary of Crimson Renewable Energy, the largest producer of high-quality, ultra-low carbon biodiesel on the West Coast, and a leading participant in the future of advanced transportation fuels. Operating since 2005, SeQuential is the only commercial biodiesel producer located in Oregon. SeQuential makes its biodiesel from recycled cooking oil collected from thousands of restaurants and businesses throughout the region. As one of the only domestic biodiesel producers that handles the process from beginning to end, SeQuential collects used cooking oil, refines it into biodiesel, and uses it to refuel vehicles and fuel stations. Every drop of oil collected becomes biodiesel and gets redistributed back into the local community. More information on SeQuential is available at https://choosesq.com.
