As a new restaurant owner, you have countless responsibilities – designing a menu, hiring staff, ordering supplies, and marketing your business. One thing you shouldn’t have to worry about is what to do with your used cooking oil. A common byproduct for any commercial kitchen with a deep fryer, used cooking oil shouldn’t go in the trash or down the drain – you need to properly store it and dispose of it safely. Fortunately, partnering with SeQuential makes it easy to get rid of your old cooking oil. We offer a free recycling program, and we repurpose used cooking oil to create renewable fuel.
Disposing of Used Cooking Oil Safely
With SeQuential, it’s easy to dispose of your old cooking oil safely. Simply sign up for our used cooking oil collection service, and one of our account managers will meet with you to orient you to our process and discuss your establishment’s needs. After your initial consultation, we’ll provide a complimentary container that you can use to securely collect and store your used cooking oil. We also will work with you to establish a collection schedule that suits your output and restaurant’s hours.
Once you’re enrolled in the program, just transfer your used cooking oil to the collection container, and our team will take care of the rest. There’s no charge for pickup, and we’ll handle the recordkeeping so you know how much oil you’ve contributed.
About SeQuential
In partnership with our parent company Neste, SeQuential is one of the leading used cooking oil collectors on the West Coast in Oregon. For over 20 years, we’ve been working to help companies reduce their carbon footprint by taking used cooking oil and transforming it into clean, ultra-low carbon renewable fuel.
SeQuential is a member of the Preferred Pumper Program (PPP), an initiative that sets reporting and cleaning standards for grease interceptors. Companies that register with PPP must train their staff to comply with these high standards.
Best Practices for Restaurant Owners
Although we strive to keep the collection process as simple as possible, we do sometimes get questions from customers. Here are our recommendations for a smooth collection process:
- Avoid spills: Carefully pour oil into the collection container. If any oil spills, you can clean it up with an absorbent pad. Or you can sprinkle it with cat litter or sand before sweeping it into the garbage.
- Keep out waste: SeQuential containers are for used cooking oil recycling Don’t put any other kind of waste material in the collection container.
- Keep the grate clean: Occasionally, scrape off the grate at the top of your container, which will help prevent clogs.
- Use SeQuential-provided locks: Locking your container helps keep other materials out of your bin and prevents theft. Be sure to use the lock provided by SeQuential so we can access your oil when we pick it up.
Grease Trap Maintenance
Your food service establishment is required to comply with state and local health regulations to keep fats, oils, and grease (FOG) out of the sewage system. Failure to follow these laws can result in fines or temporary shutdowns of your kitchen. Your grease trap keeps FOG substances from polluting the local water system and blocking pipes. SeQuential offers regular maintenance services to keep your interior and exterior grease traps in proper working condition so you can be a good environmental steward and avoid hefty fines.
We’ll inspect your traps and work with you to determine a cleaning schedule that keeps you in compliance with local regulations and prevents blockages. Your cleaning schedule may be as often as once a month or as little as once a quarter.
